The National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) will hold the Project Supervision and Project Management Academy for construction supervisors and project managers Sept. 19–25, 2009, at the Clemson University Outdoor Laboratory in Clemson, S.C.
Superintendents, crew leaders, field and project supervisors, foremen, project managers, estimators, schedulers, and project engineers are all encouraged to take advantage of 60 hours of intense training sessions that involve networking, lectures, case studies, and team-building activities. Divided into two concurrently running tracks, the academies will help attendees develop problem-solving skills to address the day-to-day issues that occur on construction projects.
Topics for the Project Management track include: leadership, documentation, cost of rework and cost control issues, computer scheduling, bid strategies, and productivity. Project Supervision track topics include: communications, safety, the supervisors' role, conflict management, construction documentation, scheduling, cost control, time management, and resource control. Participants can earn NCCER industry credentials and continuing education units; those enrolled in the Project Management Academy can earn credit toward a Master's in Construction Science and Management degree from Clemson University.
